I was thinking about how close in age/era some of our girls are. Three pairs of them are only ten years apart--Kaya and Felicity, Kirsten and Addy, and Molly and Kit. In fact, each of the "younger" ones are born in the year of the older ones. So, for example, when Kit was running around selling eggs, Molly was just a newborn baby! And Sam could easily be old enough by Kit's book (she'd be 40, being born in 1894?) to be the same age as maybe Kit's or Molly's mother. So really, Josefina is the only one out by herself.

Ironically, I was just thinking that same thing about Sam last night. I was reading through the collection of Christmas stories, and I noticed how they made home-made gifts, much the way that girls would have been taught to as little girls way back when. In fact, I don't believe that "the buying era" really started to happen until the 50's and 60's because of catalogs and mass media.

I'd never thought about that either. It's so cool that so much had changed between their time period in such a short time.

Yes that's why I have Felicity, Kirsten, Addy and Samantha and they interact with each other because they're all pre-modern girls. That is why I delayed so long in getting Molly because she would be the only modern girl in the family. Now I have Susanna, who is a time traveler, to keep Molly company. I am putting off Josefina for awhile too because she would also be all along in her time and culture.

That is really neat to think about... I remember thinking how interesting it was that all the girls years ended with a 4.
Kaya 1764
Felicity 1774
Josefina 1824
Kirsten 1854
Addy 1864
Samantha 1904
Kit 1934
Molly 1944

Wonder why they decided to keep the 4 as the ending year...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, a lot of America's major and well known wars happened abround XXX4s. Felicity's deal with the build up of the Revolutionary War, Addy's deal with the end of the Civil War, and Molly's deal with the tail end of WW2. I think they started with 4s for the first 3, and just carried the trend. Thier books cover about 2 years, though; I figured this out when I read Addy's chosen birthday was April 9th, which is the actual day the war ended in 1865. So the 4 is more the year ths stories start.

I remember realizing it when I was a kid (when there were only five dolls, mind you) that Kirsten and Addy were ten years apart, and it made me really happy to think that Kirsten helped out slaves when they came north. I just assumed she did, anyway, who knows what really happened.

It didn't occur to my ten-year-old mind that not too many slaves would make it all the way up to Minnesoda, but still.

My Kaya does double duty as a friend of Kirsten's and they both adore Addy.

My Kit and Molly are best friends too. They have similar styles so no problem sharing clothes and accessories. Currently, Molly is carrying her camera with her everywhere she goes. She wants to help Kit with her newspaper articles. They both look adorable in their play clothes and I just purchased Molly's new skates for Kit so they have another hobby they can share.
